Sweet Force: A day in the life...

Here at Candy Kittens we are always looking for fresh new faces to help kickstart their career within the food and drink industry. An extension of the Candy Kittens core team, our Sweet Force are the face of our brand to all our independent stockists and supermarket store managers. They are both brand and product experts, who create lasting and memorable experiences during every customer interaction. This means it’s extremely important that they are the perfect Candy Kittens match!

We decided to ask our current field sales team member Bridie O’Malley to break down her work day and tell you all EXACTLY what it’s like to be a part of the Candy Kittens Sweet Force…

So what exactly is the Sweet Force?

The Sweet Force is an exciting field sales role, where we bring in revenue for the company and keep Candy Kittens looking perfect in stores. I am in charge of our independent stockists, including news agents, cafés, and small grocery stores.

What does it involve?
The Sweet Force involves a lot of walking, a lot of talking and a LOT of smiling! Not only do I visit stores that stock Candy Kittens; I also take orders from independent stockists and scout out new stores to stock our delicious sweets.

What does a typical day look like?
A typical day will start with a brief visit to the office to collect samples and plan where I will be going. I then head out with a bag of sweets, my Oyster card and a good pair of shoes to take on the day!

Once I have arrived to my first stockist, I head straight for the Candy Kittens, giving the shelf a wee tidy if need be and chat with the store manager. I visit stores on a monthly basis, meaning they are ready to order by the time I visit. As Candy Kittens bags come in three different sizes, I always try to find the right fit for each store.

Getting an order and chatting with happy customers who love stocking our product is always a great feeling! Being part of the Sweet Force means getting to know London like the back of my hand, and while I have only lived here for four months, I sometimes feel that I know the city better than my friends who have lived here for years!

Additionally, I spend Monday mornings and Fridays planning my week from the office, and communicating with new and current stockists. Another fun aspect of the job is setting up points of sale (POS) that includes sticking our “Say Hey To Gourmet” wobblers on shelves, to setting up big floor standing display units. This is essential in making Candy Kittens stand out and boost sales, and is what our customers see first.

What’s your favourite part?
One of my favourite aspects of the job is how rewarding it is. Getting new stockists can be tricky, but it always pays off in the end. When pitching to new customers, I always try to paint a picture of what we will look like on their shelves and I love to share in their excitement about having Candy Kittens in their shop.

As well as this, and balanced out by an average of 20,000 steps per day, free sweets are (of course) a massive perk of the job. But I am also beyond thrilled to say I work alongside the world’s best and most supportive group of people, who are always cheering me on!

What’s your favourite flavour?
My favourite flavour is Blueberry Bliss. I’ve got at least two bags with me at all times!

A bit about Bridie:

Where are you from?
I am from Auckland in New Zealand!

What’s your favourite thing to do in your spare time?
I have only been here in the UK for four months so I am still really enjoying exploring and visiting all the British museums and London landmarks. I also love to read and and am currently immersed in The History of Britain in 21 Women.

If you could only take 3 things to a desert island, what would they be?
Thats a tough one! It would have to be a book, my phone and of course a bag of Blueberry Bliss.

What are you listening to at the moment?
Since seeing Bohemian Rhapsody, I have been obsessed with Queen. I even remember listening to “Radio GaGa” when I was little. Miley Cyrus’ new album is always on repeat, and ABBA (my sister’s least favourite band, which I now use to wind her up), Anna of the North, Lorde, and Halsey always feature on my playlists as well.

When’s the last time you went to the cinema and what did you see?
Bohemian Rhapsody! I don’t usually watch films, but I absolutely loved this one. I’m looking forward to Rocket Man as well!
