This year we had a few new members join the Candy Kittens family. Introducing: The Sweet Squad. Our Squad is an extension of our core team and are made up of a mix of inspiring micro-influencers who as individuals all excel in their own way. One member in particular has just set up her own eco-clothing brand and we wanted to give her a shout out.

Firstly, let me introduce myself… My name's Molly-Mae, I’m 25, Vegan & an all round Eco Warrior Princess. I work in the Sustainable Fashion industry in London all whilst running my very own company… Mae The Label.

The Label was born out of a burning need to change the fashion industry and it all started when I learnt how to dye with avocados. Now, my favourite colour is Pink, so when I found out that avocado has the ability to naturally dye clothes Pink (you heard me!), I had to get involved.

Unfortunately, the fast fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world. You’ve probably never thought about the impact of what you are wearing has on the planet, but the sad truth is, the fashion industry emits more carbon than international flights and roughly 20% of industrial water pollution is owed to fabric dyes!

Fast fashion does make new clothing affordable, but to what environmental cost? Our current over production of clothing becomes even more unnecessary when you find out that more than 300,000 tonnes of used clothing goes to landfill in the UK every year. Throwaway fashion is currently at its peak and my aim with Mae The Label, is to do something about it.

Mae The Label is on a mission to keep clothing out of landfill by extending the life of pre loved clothes by recycling & upcycling them using plant dyes. I take unwanted clothing and give them a new life. It may be scrunchies, a pair of stained linen trousers, or even a top you love to wear but want to breathe new life into - I dye them using natural, good on your skin, plant dyes, that don’t pollute our oceans!

There’s so many brands out there doing amazing things and making amazing products, but I wanted to find a way to reuse and recycle what we already have. Making you and your wardrobe feel better in the process!

Molly’s favourite flavour: Peach Fizz! Although that may not come as a surprise to many considering my pink obsession, haha!
