8 things to do in London this May Bank Holiday weekend
The sun’s reappeared (kind of), the winter coat has been pushed to the back of the closet and we can almost hear the rooftop bars calling our name! If your weekend to do list isn’t already spilling over the edges, then look no further for some inspiration! Here are 8 things to do in London this May Bank holiday:
Speaking of rooftop bars, what better way to kick off this list? Consider Paddington’s most Instagrammable open-air terrace officially open for the Summer (yes we used the ‘S’ word!!). Alongside it’s second location in Olympia and sister venue, The Prince, this exciting mix of both temporary and permanent restaurants and bars focuses on both fashionable and out-of-the ordinary dining experiences. Arguably the best part about Summer’s in London and you won’t be able to convince us otherwise.
If what you’re looking for is a more cultural experience this long weekend, then The Wandsworth Arts Fringe Fest is for you! Back and better than ever, this year’s programme is brimming with incredible talent. The festival is one of the most exciting cultural events of the year, encouraging all different groups of people to get involved. With poems from the likes of Eddie Forde and a special show from South London Choirs in Battersea Power Station, this festival is sure to be a mix of spectacular performances for all!
This is a PSA for all you full time foodies: This weekend, Model Market returns to the converted 1950s market just off Lewisham High Street for yet another year. Yep, this late night food spot will open every Friday and Saturday from 5pm-1am, from now until September (!). We’d love to list out all the amazing traders on here but we’d be here all day. So, to get yourself sufficiently excited, discover what’s on offer here.
Do you love handmade products? From ceramics and candles to prints and artworks? Well we’re here to inform you that the Crafty Fox Market is officially arriving at Mercato Metropolitano THIS Saturday and Sunday. The monthly pitch-up is dedicated to emerging designer makers and artists boasting all kinds of handmade products and artwork. The two-day event will also offer a variety of workshops, from card making and plant pot marbling on Saturday to an embroidery session on Sunday.
Cinco de mayo in pop brixton In honour of this year’s Cinco de Mayo, Pop Brixton are throwing a fully Mexican extravaganza this Sunday night, featuring live music, female mariachis, DJs, traditional dance, incredible food and Mexican themed decor. Sounds like it’s going to be one BIG fiesta, get your face paint at the ready!
We may have Kittens in the name but we’d be lying if we said we weren’t dog people here at CKHQ. If you are anything like us, this Sunday we would recommend hitting up Hampstead Heath for for a celebrity-judged dog show for a great cause. The Bark Off will see hundreds of dogs (and their respective humans) enter into the competition, all to raise money for All Dogs Matter, a re-homing and rescue charity. Categories include cutest pup, best child handler, golden oldies, best rescue, and Miss & Mr Heath. No, we can’t think of a better way to spend our Sunday afternoon either.
Ever feel the need to escape? Kind of like how Peter Pan ran away to Neverland? Well now you have your chance. With their philosophy being all about escapism, the makers of Fulham Beach have nailed creating a summer paradise in one of the busiest cities in the world. With mouth-watering food, craft drinks and games on tap what more could you ask for?
It’s a fair, in May, in Mayfair. Simple! This weekend Grosvenor Square is hosting an iconic fair to celebrate the great British seaside. In honour of the May Fayre historically held in the beautiful square, there’ll be maypole and Morris dancing, fairground rides, giant deck chairs, beach huts, fish and chips and the pièce de résistance: a helter skelter!
Okay okay, so this isn’t this weekend but we couldn’t NOT flag this event. The We Love Cheese festival for cheese lovers is returning this spring to Battersea Power Station from the 11th-12th May and we could not be more pumped! The event is free to attend and is promised to be bigger and better than ever as it expands over two days and partners with Vagabond’s Urban Winery for the very first time. You can expect delicious food from Mac To The Future’s signature mac’n’cheese to The Toasty Badger’s oozy toasties (drool). There will also be music and entertainment, with live performances and the return of the Wheel of Cheese to be in with a chance of winning special prizes. You’re welcome!
