7 American Foods That We Should Definitely Have In The UK
by our Guest Blogger Evie Pearce 25 July, 2019
1. S'mores Breakfast Cereal
You can't go wrong with anything that tastes like chocolate, biscuits and marshmallows! Golden Grahams are one of my favourite cereals in the world, so this massive step up that is basically an American campfire classic in a breakfast bowl needs to make it way across the pond ASAP!
2. Endless Oreo Flavours
After years of just having your bog standard Oreo and your double stuffed, we’ve now been treated to strawberry, golden, mint and even more excitingly...birthday cake Oreos! But it still doesn’t quite reach the American standard. I mean, they have red velvet, carrot cake, ice cream, pistachio, peanut butter, cinnamon bun and cookie butter flavoured Oreos! And that's not even the whole range!
3. Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwiches
In theory, you can make yourself a peanut butter and jam sandwich nearly wherever you are in the world, but this American classic doesn't seem to be the typical sandwich of choice in the UK, and it should be! The PB&J combo is an absolute game changer and everyone in the world should give it a go - I promise you won’t be disappointed!
4. Birthday Cake, Mint, and White Chocolate M&Ms
M&Ms are quite possibly my favourite chocolate candies in the world, and I am beyond jealous of the amazing flavours they have in America! White chocolate, mint, and caramel M&Ms are just 3 of the flavours we are significantly lacking in the UK. Oh, and did I mention birthday cake M&Ms? Let's get real - we need these. As much as I love the original peanut, I think life would be a lot more exciting with a bag of birthday cake M&Ms in the bottom of your handbag.
5. Jolly Ranchers
These are the sweets that always get the 10/10 rating on ‘British YouTuber Tries American Candy’ videos, and I feel like we are majorly missing out on something over here. Jolly Ranchers come in apple, blue raspberry, cherry, watermelon and grape flavours, which is significantly more exciting than the strawberry, orange, lemon and blackcurrant flavours that are the standard for sweets in the UK. (Thank God for Sour Watermelon and Eton Mess Candy Kittens, right?!)
6. Pop Tarts
Again…I feel that we’ve been a bit cheated here, having been teased with the occasional strawberry or chocolate pop tart, while over in the States, they have cinnamon roll, chocolate chip cookie dough, confetti cupcake, and that's to name a few! (They even have Jolly Rancher!) My envy levels are real as ever, and I am most definitely starting a petition to give us Brits some more exciting Pop Tarts!
7. Rainbow Swirl Halo Tops
I think the words 'rainbow' and 'swirl' make for a good enough reason to need this in the UK - particularly during this heatwave. It doesn't get much better than rainbow food, be it sushi, birthday cake, or this delicious raspberry, orange and lime explosion. As a country, we really are missing out on some of the most interesting flavoured foods, and if one thing's for sure, it's that America has it covered!
