5 Tips On How To Spend Summer In London The Right Way

by George Dorrer  July 1st, 2019

With the summer months being well and underway, we saw an opportune time to help you find the best outdoor activities to take full advantage of the London sunshine - two words rarely seen side-by-side! Here are five of our current favourite spots that you need to check out ASAP.

Rooftop Film Club - Shoreditch, Stratford and Peckham

If you’re anything like us here at CKHQ, you’ll know that after a long day in the office (or hey - in the sun!) there is nothing better than kicking back, watching a film, and admiring the sunset as it slowly falls below the horizon. Well, you can now do all of this on one of London's most majestic rooftops. So head along and enjoy the food and drink, whilst having a sing-along to some of the greatest hits of all time. Whether it’s bringing out your inner Sandy and Danny, or recreating that famous Dirty Dancing scene - there really is something for everyone on offer at the Rooftop Film Club.

GoBoat - Paddington and Kingston.

We know that when the sun is shining in London, the temperature can be sizzling, so what better way to spend it than making a splash on the River Thames? Choose your starting destination, and drive your boat along the vibrant Regent’s Canal, taking in the sights of Little Venice, or ending at Camden Lock where you can explore the local market. If you fancy a more historic ending, the Kingston experience will take you into quaint Teddington, where you can end the day wandering around the magnificent Hampton Court Palace. Grab some friends and bring along a picnic, as these boats can fit up to eight people, so why not spend your day slowly sailing through London whilst soaking up the sunshine and enjoying a bite to eat!

Underbelly Festival - Southbank

If you haven’t heard of the Underbelly Festival on London’s Southbank, then we only have one piece of advice for you - get over there now! We can't get enough of the variety of summer events on at Underbelly - ranging from Comedy Nights, Live Swing Music and Dancing, and even London Soul choirs. You can enjoy a wide selection of international street food, or even get the after-work drinks flowing, with an international festival right on the banks of the River Thames! This is the 11th anniversary and it promises to come back better than ever, so do not miss out on this one!

God’s Own Junkyard - Walthamstow

If you’re searching for a more artsy and cultural experience, look no further than arguably one of London’s most Instagrammable locations - it even has its own bar to quench your thirst after you’ve finished admiring one of the world's most extensive collections of neon signs! The collection features signs that have appeared behind some of the greatest stars: Tom Cruise in Eyes Wide Shut, Johnny Depp in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Jack Nicholson in Batman, to name a few. This is a must see simply because of its outright quirkiness, so take our advice and head on down.

Ruislip Lido - Ruislip, West London

For many, the beach epitomises summer, and now you don’t even have to leave the bustling centre of London to enjoy your little slice of paradise. Ruislip Lido offers a tropical spot for anyone looking for a bit of faux-seaside fun. Once you’ve had enough of your tanning for the day (and we know that’s hard!), then a miniature train offers a picturesque journey through the surrounding nature reserve and along the edge of the lake so that you can take in all that Ruislip Beach has to offer! Grab your swimming trunks, pack a picnic, and head down to London’s very own beach for your very own staycation.
